The remake of the 1978 horror film “Halloween”, directed by
Rob Zombie, brings thrill and fear back into the age old tradition of
trick-or-treating on this October bound holiday. The plot exposes the origins
of the iconic masked murder Michael Myers, played by Tyler Mane. We witness his
first gruesome kill and how he came upon his pale white mask. The plot smoothly
transitions from past to present as he sets out to kill his little sister who
survived the family massacre when he was a child. As he hunts for this girl he
destroys anyone who gets in his way, creating a chilling mood that constantly
reminds you to check over your shoulder every moment you get. The director is
clever in his way of characterizing the cast. Everyone’s identity is defined by
Myer’s oppressions. The “heroes” or sympathetic characters are the ones that
try to fight against Myers in hopes of survival for themselves and for each
other. Even though these “good-guy” roles are present in the film there is a
feeling you have deep down that wants Myers to win. You want to see him kill
his victims in the sneakiest yet gruesome ways. If that’s not the case you love
the surprise of his methodical movements. What he embodies makes the movie a
winner and fills the movie theater seats on opening night.
